Yoga & Creative Writing Workshop
Yoga is inspirational in so many ways and in this workshop it is being used as the subject for creative writing. This idea evolved from teaching Maggie Doyle (Worcestershire Poet Laureate Emeritus), a long term student of mine who often commented on the poetic nature of yoga.
During this 2.5 hour session, different aspects of yoga will be considered ranging from asan (posture), pranayam (breathing), mudra (hand positions) and mantra (chanting), recognising that some people respond better to movement and others to sound. The yoga classes are beginner level to allow you to focus on feeling and expressing through words. Maggie will gently guide you throughout, helping to shape your thoughts into a poem.
The workshop is open to all with no experience required in either yoga or writing. The cost is £35 per person which includes hot refreshments, a mini notepad and pencil. Mats can be supplied for those who do not have one. Workshops will be running Autumn/Winter 2016 in the Worcestershire area. To register your interest, please contact me.
Yoga and Essential Oils
The yoga mat is a powerful place to bring emotions, truth and awareness to the surface because of the body’s connection due to the parasympathetic nervous system (which is often activated during a yoga class). Sometimes we can find certain postures difficult but cannot identify the reason why. There may be obvious physical reasons such as injury or long periods of time where you have not been as mobile as you would have liked, but have you ever considered that your body may have locked up due to an emotion or trauma? The body as well as the brain can embed emotions known as ‘somatic memory or intelligence.’ You may have experienced in class feeling very emotional during an asana but did not understand why -maybe you were freeing up an unconscious suppressed memory within the body? Essential oils activate a part of the brain called the ‘amygdala’ which is the part that houses trauma and repressed memories. So you can start to see that working with oils during yoga can help to free up our bodies and minds. During this two hour exploratory workshop, oils will be applied topically whilst in a posture, they will be diffused aromatically and also ingested. At the end of the class, there will be the opportunity to create a scent memory. I have handmade OM clay pendants to which you can apply your chosen oil to hold that memory of relaxation. The class size will be kept to a maximum of five people. The workshop will be held on a Saturday morning. Please email me to register your interest.
The cost for the workshop is £30 per person. The scent memory pendant is £4.99-£6.99 depending on the oil that you choose.
Yoga For Your Type
This two hour workshop introduces the concept of Ayurveda and how it applies to your yoga practice. Each of us is made of up of three doshas -Vata (air and ether), Pitta (fire) and Kapha (water and earth). The balance of these three doshas will determine our physical, emotional, mental and emotional make-up. When one of these doshas dominates it can lead to an imbalance which can manifest in illness. There are various tools to help create equilibrium, one of which is the practising of the correct asanas for your type. Often I can tell someone’s dosha dominance by observing them in savasana. The Vata person will be fidgeting whereas the Kapha person may fall asleep or find it difficult to bring themselves round at the end of the class. During this workshop, I will give you an introduction to the types, foods to eat/avoid and what postures will support you according to your dosha. This class is suitable for those new to Ayurveda. The class will be kept to a maximum of five people. The workshop will be held on a Saturday morning. Please email me to register your interest.
The cost for the workshop is £30 per person.
FREE Essential Oils Seminar Saturday 22nd March 2014, 10.45am (for 11am start) The Abbey Hotel, Redditch
I am hosting an essential oils event on Saturday 22nd March at 10.45am (for 11am start) at The Abbey Hotel in Redditch. It is a FREE one hour seminar on the use and benefit of essential oils. We will cover how to treat common ailments and conditions using natural solutions rather than pharmaceuticals. Every attendee will receive a free Wild Orange essential oil to try at home.
The oils are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. This is beyond organic, verified pure, free of pesticides and foreign contaminants. Many of the oils have undergone scientific research showing the positive impact/efficacy through before and after blood samples. A 15ml bottle contains up to 250 drops and as the oil is so potent you only need 1-2 drops at a time. I appreciate that there are so many essential oil companies out there with wonderful credentials but this company truly offers some special products. The plant material is sourced from native origins. Growers are selected, trained and monitored on harvest practice. Each litre of oil undergoes multiple 3rd party testing to certify potency and purity.
After the seminar you might like to buy a day pass to the spa at the hotel (giving you access to the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room) for only £10 or have a spot of lunch. If you would like a spa pass, I just need to let the hotel know and then you can pay on the day. Again, the same goes for lunch – I need to give the hotel an idea of numbers.
If you would like to attend the seminar, please email your details to me at email@example.com supplying your name, email address and telephone number (preferably a mobile). I will then post the admission and free sample voucher out to you. Please only ask for a voucher if you can definitely attend.
